In Kenya, the first Covid-19 positive case was reported on 13th March, 2020. This caught the country as a shock for Covid-19 was least expected to be in Kenya that soon. Immediately the government rolled out precautionary measures which included closure of schools, places of worship, secession of movements and curfew. With all these, many people lost their jobs and many families were rendered vulnerable.

The Uzimatele Ministry Board under the leadership of Pastor George Otieno in conjunction with Daniel Chalke and Wiebke found it prudent to have an intervention plan. Over and above provision of food to the vulnerable it was seen important that face masks and soaps were equally important for cleanliness as a preventive measure against spread of Covid-19.

In the plan, four groups of people were targeted; The Uzimatele Education Centre (Gituamba), The Uzimatele Community Church, The Uzimatele Scholarship Program and the closer neighbours.

Need Justification

Many families went without food since many of them were depending on casual jobs. With the curfew and secession of movements, jobs were not guaranteed to them. Most families under single mothers who depend on day to day income each family having 3 to 5 children without stable source of income. The casual jobs most of the single mothers depend on are washing of clothes for people and at this moment people are not willing to welcome strangers to their houses for the fear and also as a precaution for the contracting of the Corona Virus. This has made life to be hard for these mothers and with the continuous growth in the positive case reported, it may take some time for their lives to get back to normal.

On behalf of all the beneficiaries, may I say thank you so much for the timely response and quick fundraising that overwhelmed us. The response has touched on so many lives and may God bless each and every one who contributed towards this goal.
